Is it me, or did the holiday season take off at a breakneck pace?
All I know is I’ve been busy with work and with projects. Christmas comes at the same time every year and it involves the same traditions. But there is something different about this year.
The only thing I can think of is that Simone and Nadia are older, can better articulate their holiday desires, and that Christmas is just more complicated with classrooms and teachers. The tree is up, and the wreath is on the door. I’m getting around to hanging the stockings and putting some fresh garland on the mantel. If I could, I’d outsource wrapping presents and addressing Christmas cards.
Oh, and I decided to makeover the girls’ room this month. I know, I know. Who does that in the middle of the holiday season? Someone who doesn’t want to put it off until next year. Someone who has been thinking about it for a while and just needed to get started so that she could finish. It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. I’ve also painted letters — an S and an N – for the room. This week, I must put a stencil and a few pictures on the wall.
It’s only Dec. 3 and I am beat. I’ve knocked out most of the shopping, and the semester ends next week. I promised myself I’d make some homemade bath and body goodies for the important women in my life. I’ve got all of the ingredients at the ready. I just need to find the time and the creative energy.
With any luck I can quietly sip a Blackberry Izze the night before Christmas, knowing the big payoff is just hours away. Until then everything is going to be a blur.
