Finding people who look like you and your family can be a challenge. Members and organizers of all of the organizations listed below participated in the Critical Mixed Race Conference at DePaul University. A few of the organizations are new to me, while others have been featured on Honeysmoke. Enjoy!
Biracial Family Network — Organized in 1980 to help eliminate prejudice and discrimination by assisting individuals and families of diverse ethnic ancestry to improve the quality of their intercultural relationships via education and social activities.
CBC Diversity– The CBC Diversity Committee isdedicated to increasing the diversity of voices and experiences contributing to children’s literature. To create this change, the Committee strives to build awareness that the nature of our society must be represented within the children’s publishing industry.
Lovingday.org — Loving Day’s mission is to fight racial prejudice through education and to build multicultural community.
iPride — iPride was founded in 1979 by a concerned group of multiracial families in Berkeley California
Multiracial Americans of Southern California (MASC) — Seeks to broaden self and public understanding of our interracial, multiethnic, and cross-cultural society by facilitating interethnic dialogue and providing cultural, educational, and recreational activities.
MAVIN — Helps build healthier communities by raising awareness about the experiences of mixed heritage people and families. Its projects explore the experiences of mixed heritage people, transracial adoptees, interracial relationships and multiracial families.
Mixed Roots Film and Literary Festival — The Festival has showcased many talented filmmakers, writers, and performers, including Rebecca Walker, Kip Fulbeck, Danzy Senna, Kim Wayans & Kevin Knotts, Angela Nissel, Neil Aitken, Sundee Frasier and Karyn Parsons.
Swirl, Inc. — A national multi-ethnic organization that challenges society’s notions of race through community building, education, and action.
Topaz Club — A sisterhood for biracial and multiracial women of African and African-American descent.
